How to Design Your Week for Maximum Productivity (Without Getting Burned Out)
When most of us dream about entrepreneurship, it isn’t just about making money or building a legacy—it’s about freedom and flexibility. Yet, too many business owners end up feeling overwhelmed, working longer hours than ever, and burning out in the process. In this episode of the Her Empire Builder Show, Tina Tower gives us a behind-the-scenes look at her weekly flow that helps her stay productive, creative, and, most importantly, joyful. Here’s a breakdown of her routine and the mindset shifts that make it work.
1. Map Out Your Ideal Week—But Keep It Flexible
Tina’s key message is to create a schedule that works for you, knowing it might not function perfectly 100% of the time (she estimates about 75%). Instead of striving for rigid perfection, allow your routine to serve you most of the time—and give yourself grace during busy seasons or big projects.
2. Theme Your Days for Deep Focus
Batching similar tasks together is a game-changer. Here’s how Tina structures her week:
-
Monday – Content Creation: Fresh from a restful weekend, Monday is reserved for creative work—writing, recording podcasts, filming, and developing big-picture ideas. By avoiding meetings, Tina maximizes her creative energy.
-
Tuesday – People Day: Back-to-back calls, coaching, and team meetings. Having all people-related tasks on one day means you’re not constantly switching “modes.”
-
Wednesday – Deep Work: This is her “strategy” day—analyzing metrics, finances, and crafting masterclasses. It’s a meeting-free zone so she can dive deep without distractions.
-
Thursday – Leftover Day: Any remaining tasks that don’t fit the major buckets go here. Sometimes this includes a few calls or miscellaneous projects.
-
Friday – Flex & Flow: Ideally, Fridays are off! Tina uses this day to rest, recharge, run errands, get creative, or simply live life outside of business when possible.
3. Schedule White Space & Recovery
Intentional downtime is non-negotiable. Tina blocks out the entire third week of every month for unscheduled work, no meetings or camera time—a sanctuary for introverts or anyone needing a break from being “on.” She also takes four weeks off at Christmas and an extra four weeks throughout the year. When you work hard Monday through Thursday, you can truly enjoy your rest.
4. Work with Your Energy, Not Against It
Pay attention to your creative and energetic peaks. Don’t force yourself to work when you’re running on empty. Recovery isn’t just for athletes; your brain needs it, too. Prioritizing health means you can sustain productivity over the long haul.
5. Set Firm Boundaries & Communicate Them
Let your team and clients know your availability. You do not need to be instantly reactive. Checking emails or messages only at certain points of the day is often enough—most things can wait a few hours.
6. Use Tools That Keep You Organized
Project management software like Monday.com (Tina’s tool of choice) helps keep tasks organized and your brain uncluttered. Blocking your calendar in advance also prevents your time from being hijacked by others.
7. Stay Adaptable
Build in structure, but not at the expense of life’s unpredictability. Know when it’s worth breaking your own rules for something that matters and when it’s not.
Building a business isn’t about cramming every waking moment with work. It’s about deliberately architecting your time to reflect your values, priorities, and your real life. Productivity isn’t just about “doing more”—it’s about doing what truly matters, without burning out.
Take a cue from Tina’s process: map out your “perfect week,” experiment, communicate your boundaries, and build your calendar around what YOU value most. When you honor your own rhythms and respect your limits, that’s where sustainable success—and real freedom—lives.
